The Surf Dawg Philosophy

Surf Dawg Lacrosse is dedicated to providing a quality lacrosse experience to participants of all ages and ability levels, while preserving the honor and spirit of the game for future generations.

The ultimate mission of the Surf Dawgs is to provide our community's high school programs with high caliber players who consistently demonstrate the values of integrity, respect, responsibility and sportsmanship.

An Overview of the Surf Dawgs

Established in 2003, the Surf Dawgs aims to be the premier instructional and competitive youth lacrosse program in Southern California. The Dawgs are under the direction of G.W. Mix, former NCAA National Coach of the Year, and current Team President and General Manager of the LA Riptide, a professional lacrosse team competing in the Western Division of the MLL (www.lariptide.com).

There are three divisions within the program: grades 2-4, grades 5-6, and grades 7-8. Players of all ability levels, from any school in the Newport Beach area, are welcome in the Dawg House.

The Dawgs compete each January – March in the Orange County Lacrosse Association's (www.ocla.org) youth lacrosse league.

Each season, the staff will evaluate the participant's and assign them to the appropriate team based upon grade level, experience, athletic ability and skill level.

This season, the OCLA Winter League will offer a schedule of games for 2 levels of play (Competitive & Developmental) in the 7th-8th grade division. The Surf Dawgs will enter teams at both levels.

At various times during the year, some of the Dawgs are invited to participate in more selective, competitive youth lacrosse tournaments and events throughout Southern California.

In addition, the program will also offer scrimmages and clinics for beginning players who are not yet ready for the challenge and physical demands of a full competitive season.
