The LA Riptide are a 2006 addition to Major League Lacrosse. Playing throughout the summer at the Home Depot Center, the Riptide finished their inaugural campaign in fifth place overall in this ten team professional outdoor lacrosse league. Former Greyhound goalie Charlie Toomey leads the "east coast Dawgs" of Loyola College. A perennial Top 20 Division I team, Loyola travels to San Diego in March of 2007 for a re-match with the Duke Blue Devils in the First Four.

In the past 16 seasons, Bill Tierney has led the Princeton Tigers to six National Championships and 13 Ivy League Titles. LA Riptide players Jason Buttles (Mid), Todd Eichelberger (Att/Mid), Lorne Smith (Att/Mid), Josh White (Att/Mid) all earned National Championship rings while playing at Princeton.

Tony Seaman, Head Coach of the "Taggers" gave Coach Mix his start in coaching in 1983 when he was the man at the helm of the Penn Quakers. One of the most innovative minds in the game, Coach Seaman coached LA Riptide standouts Danny Cocchi and Spencer Ford, and currently works side by side with Riptide scoring machine Andrew "Buggs" Combs, who serves as his assistant at Towson. Surf Dawg Coach Mark Todd played for the Tigers... back in the day.

The Virginia Cavaliers are a perennial powerhouse in college lacrosse. The 2006 Wahoos won the NCAA Division I National Championship and produced 2006 Tewaaraton Trophy winner Matt Ward (attack). Riptide stars Tillman Johnson (goalie) and Michael Watson (attack) are former greats for this ACC school, located in Charlottesville, VA.
