Surf Dawg DEFENSIVE Clinic Series

The Surf Dawgs are pleased to announce two new Series focusing on defending our goal.  “Best in Show” Series for our advanced players and "Defend the Pound" for all defensemen and midfielders.

"Best in Show" DEFENSE Clinic Series
The “Best in Show” Series on Mondays is led by CDM Varsity Assistant Coach Tommy Shuey and is open to Blue Level close defensemen, long stick midfielders (LSM), and midfielders.

There are 10 spots available for the Monday Series.
Location/Time
Corona del Mar High School
6:30-8PM 
Sessions begin promptly at 6:30, please have boys at the field at 6:15PM.
 
Eligibility:
Fall 2017 Grades 6-8
Registration by Invitation Only.

The focus of our Monday Series with Tommy will be to develop your son’s defensive skills in the following areas: 
 
- Footwork
- Field Position
- Stick Control
- Team D Concepts
- Defensive Stick Skills
- On-Ball Technique 
 
Upon the completion of this series your son will develop a better understanding of the defensive position, be confident in his abilities to play on-ball defense and have fun playing the position!  Each session builds upon what was taught at the last therefore we would like the boys to attend all three sessions to get the most out of the experience. 
 
 
"Defend the Pound" Clinic Series (Tuesdays/Open Registration)
The Tuesday Series is an open registration.  Walk-ups/drop-ins may not participate -  all participants must register on the Surf Dawg website prior to a Session.

Available Sessions and Cost: $40 per session or all 4 Sessions $150 (nonrefundable)

Fall 2017 Grades 5-8
Defensive Stick Skills: 
The focus will be to develop your son’s stick skills and stick handling abilities in various challenging drills and competitive mini-games. 
 
- Ground Ball Technique

- Stick Protection 
- Team D Concepts
- On-Ball Technique
 
Upon the completion of this series your son will develop better stick skills which leads to more confidence to help him excel at any position on the field. Each session builds upon what was taught at the last therefore we would like the boys to attend all three sessions to get the most out of the experience.

Surf Dawg Goalie Clinic with Shooters Series


The Surf Dawg Goalie Clinic with Shooters is led by CDM Varsity Goalie Coach Tim Cassi and features CDM/Yale University Hoyt Crance. The focus will be to continue to develop your son’s skills in the cage in the following areas:

- Footwork
- Hand Eye Coordination
- Reaction Time 
- Patient Saving 
- Focused Reactions
- Positioning
- Seeing the Ball

This Clinic will also offer the goalies the benefit of seeing a variety of shots from their peers as directed by Coach Cassi.
 
Upon the completion of this Series your son will develop a better understanding of the goalie position, be confident in his abilities to stop the ball and more then anything else, have fun playing the position!  Each session builds upon what was taught at the last therefore we would like the boys to attend as many sessions as possible to get the most out of the experience. 

Select offensive players in each grade will be invited to Clinic Sessions to continue to develop the following skills, along with shooting on the goaltenders themselves.  All shots will be done on age specific goalies. 
  • Step down shooting
  • Shooting on the run
  • Hitch and Shoot
  • Techniques required to be a more accurate shooter
  • All shooting will be done right and left handed
  • Fun competitions between Shooters and Goalies

Series I Cost:  $20 per session or $90 for all 5
Series II Cost: $20 per session or $75 for all 4

Surf Dawg Summer Clinic Series


Stay tuned Dawgs for the next Clinic Series!

The Summer Clinic Series is designed to introduce lacrosse to boys rising into Grades 2-8th in a series of fun sessions that will build on what was taught the day before. 
Beginners will be shown proper fundamentals and taught the basic mechanics of scooping ground balls, cradling, throwing, catching, dodging and shooting.

Additionally, experienced Surf Dawgs of any ability level that are eager to improve their skills and IQ are encouraged to participate in fun and competitive drills and mini-games.  Returning players can also expect continuing education on proper technique and mechanics involving all aspects of stick handling, as well as instruction on communication, footwork, and positioning in dodging and defending drills.  

All boys will be separated based on ability.

If you need to borrow equipment from the Dawgs, please arrive 30 minutes early to allow the necessary time to get your son dressed to participate. Loaner equipment (helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves) is available on a first come, first serve basis. Beginners should bring their own lacrosse stick if possible, however, we do have sticks to loan.  Players should have a molded mouthpiece, water/gatorade for breaks, along with lacrosse/soccer/football cleats.  Please, no sneakers/tennis shoes.  A protective cup is also recommended.
